Two souls committing their lives to one another with nothing but the sun kissing their faces, rugged rock under their feet and the wind caressing their linked fingers. Their soft whispered vows, and endless love written in their eyes are the first memories of their marriage.
The act of elopement, running off secretly to be married or leaving a safe place, was in all its simple glory the inspiration behind this styled session. I love the idea of relaxed nuptials, where the betrothed—loved up, romantic, uninhibited, and adventurous— commit their lives to one another in a breathtaking location with Mother Nature as their witness. The notion of simplifying the wedding process, down to the organic roots of where the experience is shared between the two people who matter most in a marriage, motivated me to coordinate the shoot. At times the glamour of weddings can be alluring, yet there is an enticing spontaneity about eloping that I wanted to capture. The concept of marrying on the edge of a mountain with vast landscapes, truly represents part of the definition of elopement: leaving a safe place. I hoped the landscape would accentuate the delicate intimacy of the love shared between two people.
Ultimately, I was aiming for a practical shoot that could easily be achieved by anyone, while encouraging brides and grooms to push the boundaries of conventionality. I reached out to local vendors to collaborate with me, as I wanted to the shoot to provide the opportunity for these amazing women to showcase their talents. The stationery from Small Brown Writes was kept organic and elegant with handwritten calligraphy that encapsulated the tangible intimacy of the elopement. The flora by The Little Flower Market, illustrated the rusticity and captured the boho vibe that partnered perfectly with the soft lace of the dress. The deep burgundy of the dress was ideal in symbolising a deep love and ardour, and was a beautiful juxtaposition against the raw beauty of the mountainous location. The large, chunky wool blanket was thoughtfully created by Kalaii Creations, and added a touch of luxury to an otherwise raw, and minimalistic session.
